I was digging around archive.org (now known as the way back machine) for a copy of one of the actual ads that I authored and ran in Computer Shopper between Oct '93 and Oct '94 a couple of years before the Internet was commercial for an interview today with The Daily Kent Stater at Kent State University and found one from Oct '94.

Usually when I tell people about my 15 minutes of fame according to Andy Warhol they'll respond "but we all know that Al Gore invented the Internet". I'll smile and respond I don't claim to have invented the 'net, or wish to take anything away from either Al Gore or Tim Berners-Lee, just having attempted to captilize on it as ethically as possible at the time through traditional print media instead of spam (still a bad thing), for which I'm very proud to have been at the right place at the right time in history.

We were selling screaming fast single spin CD-ROM drives and maintained the largest selection of discs - LOL

At the time there were only two distributors in America selling CD-ROM discs and neither sold overseas. We saw that as an opportunity. Since the config.sys file was the first and most important file on a computer which told the system where the address for devices like CD-ROM drives were, we named the company config.sys (now known as config.com)

I've always joked that we didn't make our first gazillion dollars selling CD's because computers were not as popular as they have become today Sealed

An interesting turn in our company also occurred in Oct of 1994 when I produced a CD-ROM disc called "The Commerce Exchange" which the idea was to distribute commercial catalogs bundled with what was the largest game collection available via "electronic marketing" (now known as search engine optimization (SEO) and in those days it was conducted in the USENET newsgroups instead of web pages) via the Internet. It was taboo to use the Internet for commerce in those days, but we found that if we provided Information, it was viewed differently much like advertising supporting a newspaper so we established one of the oldest commercial newsgroups alt.cdrom.reviews which was well accepted in those pre-commercialism of the 'net days.

The Internet became commerical in March of 1995 which was about two weeks after our Commerce Exchange was released. While sales initially went through the roof, then died just as quick since all of a sudden the merchants supporting our disc could get a web site. It was just another great idea, three months too late. This was when we evolved our company toward publishing and manipulating content on the Internet web and have been doing so ever since....

More detailed information about the history of config.com is available on our company timetable webpage

My life experiences in Columbus Ohio during the 1980s PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joe Rinehart
Wednesday, 01 October 2008

In 1982 I found myself divorced from my first wife Jan. Not long after my father aquired a cemetery in Columbus, Ohio which also gave me an opportunity to live in Columbus for most of the 1980's.

When I first arrived I had a date and wanted to go sailing but I couldn't find a place to rent a sailboat. Well, being an entrepreneurial spirit, I decided to start a sailing company which I called Sail Ohio. I managed to survive eight years renting and teaching people to sail at the various lakes around Columbus, before I returned home to Ravenna, Ohio in 1989.

In the winters during my off-season, I decided to work as a waiter to supplement my income from the cemetery and sailing businesses. I worked at several restraurants which included The Worthing Inn, The James Tavern, Otani Japanse sushi bar and restraurant, and Sakura Japanese resturant and sushi bar.

The one exception to my winter routine was in 1986 when I found myself with the opportunity to go to the Bahamas for about three months. Maybe, one of these days I'll write an article about my Bahamas adventures which made for a great year.

I pretty much dated the same girl for most of the 80's  who's name was Suzy. I thought a lot of her as she was a teacher and she tolerated my irregular income as a waiter and Entrepreneur. We had our differences which were mostly religious in nature and when the City of Columbus started a sailing franchise on the Scioto river toward the late eighties, I decided to return to my home and family security blanket (cemetery) in Ravenna around 1989 ;)

I'm very pleased to introduce our latest client RestorationVIP.com water damage extraction service from Miami, Florida!

I was first hired to perform a Search Engine Optimization web site review to help make it easier for people who need emergency water damage extraction services from hurricanes, floods, fires, and other natural disasters to find them easier. Upon implementing my recommendations the growth and ranking of their web site had indeed improved to the point that we've agreed to convert their site to our joombalaia content management system (CMS) designed specifically to make it easier for people to find our clients.

UPDATE: Practical Solutions is giving joerinehart.com visitors a 10% discount code for any orders placed from a link on this web cam review page. Use the code psgps on your order.

In the early days proceeding the Internets commercialism between 1993 and 1994 I used to review CD-ROM discs and in fact founded the usenet newsgroup alt.cd-rom.reviews. Upon discussing this history with a client called Practical Solutions who markets web cameras for surveillance manufactured under the trade name GrandTec by GH Plastic Manufacturing Co., Ltd. of Taiwan it was suggested a review of a web camera might be a lot of fun.

I agreed to offer my unbiased opinion without compensation or fee other than I'd not have to ship the web camera back and could keep it for a momento of my web came review.  A couple of weeks later the best model manufactured by GrandTec called the "Grand Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Camera" was delivered by my United States Postal carrier. My 10 year old son Jeremiah was impressed with the stamps promoting the 2008 Olympics in Beijing China with Chinese characters

Nationwide Insurance in Ohio - Is NOT on my side PDF Print E-mail

I'm hopping perturbed at Nationwide Insurance and I'll tell you why:

I recently bought a new used 1996 Ford Taurus economy car at the Canton, Ohio municipal auction on July 9th 2008. It turned out to be an undercover cop car which my ten year old boy thought was pretty cool. I have to admit I did too.
